Through a variety of ministry and service experiences men will be challenged to measure their manhood against a biblical model rather than contemporary culture. Consequently, these men will become spiritually alive in Christ, investing significantly in their personal spiritual growth as well as the spiritual growth of their wives and children.
Encourage men to enter into deepening relationship with Christ in order to prepare themselves and future generations to think and act nobly.
Noble - Having or displaying qualities of high moral character, as honor, generosity or courage. (Webster’s II)
But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands. Isaiah 32:8
Warrior - One engaged or experienced in battle. (Webster’s II)
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. Ps. 127:4-5a.
Warrior was the first of the two words to take its place. Because I have three sons (and a daughter), Psalm 127:4-5 is significant to me. The visual image of my children as the arrows that I, the warrior, have available in battle is incredible. I see that the arrows must be straight and well made in order to be effective, and that I must be a capable and prepared warrior in order to prevail against the enemy. The imagery is thought provoking and humbling. I have a great responsibility, all men do.
It took several weeks to settle on the word Noble, but when I found Isaiah 32:8 the deal was sealed. The noble man makes noble plans and by noble deeds he stands. In many ways, the concept of nobility is gone from our culture. Unfortunately, short cuts and quick fixes are the accepted norm. Rarely do we see people who are willing to invest time, energy and resources in doing the right thing and waiting for long term rewards. Although I have not found the word noble used to describe Christ in the scriptures, I believe it is fitting. I want to be someone who thinks and acts nobly, like Christ.
Think of your children as arrows that you will some day send off into the world. In order to be effective, they must be straight and sharp. They won’t get that way themselves. Men must set the standard and lead them.
