Be More Like Barnabas: Steady, Dependable & Courageous

Good morning men, this week we’ve been taking a look at the life of Barnabas. We’ve seen that he was generous with using his wealth to build the kingdom. He was a bold networker who personally ushered newly converted Paul into the inner circle of Christ followers. We know he was not afraid of conflict. He was also a discipler of men who invested in Mark and encouraged him in ministry. Wow, that’s a lot!

With Barnabas, we don’t get a picture of an out-front sort of headliner in the first century church. What I see is a faithful man who was steady, dependable and courageous. He depended on God and allowed God to use him. Now, let me tell you the rest of the story. Barnabas poured his life in to John Mark. Ultimately, John Mark traveled with Peter and recorded his story of Jesus ministry in the Gospel of Mark. Wow! Would Mark have been available for God to work through him if Barnabas had not encouraged him?

And here’s another thought. Paul became a discipler of young men. Look how he poured his life into Timothy and others. Originally, Paul wasn’t interested in Mark so I wonder if seeing how Barnabas encouraged Mark helped Paul see the value of investing in younger men? Guys, it looks like Barnabas was a low profile guy who had huge kingdom impact. Does your life look anything like Barnabas’? Could it? That’s your challenge for today.
