Minute with Mike | March 2021
Many young men can sing along with the once-popular U2 hit, “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.” This month, I’ve talked with a broad spectrum of men in casual conversations, meetings, and specifically on The Noble Man Podcast about this question, “What are men looking for?”
The answers are as many and various as the men I ask, but here’s a theme…
Most men are looking for someone to walk and process life with them.
Younger men are looking for wisdom from experienced guys. Seasoned men would love to share what they know with younger men, often because they don’t want others to fall into the same traps.
I want to encourage you, regardless of where you are on the age/experience continuum, to reach out to someone who is at a different stage of life and learn together, from each other.
Paul finished his life well, but you’ll recall that he didn’t start so well. This month I was reminded that he lived with purpose to encourage others and invest in their lives, especially younger guys like Timothy and Titus.
What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me – practice these things, Philippians 4:9a
…and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2
Of course, Jesus is the ultimate model for us to follow, but it helps when we can observe and emulate others to follow him well. Paul also said…
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1
Men, who are you following? Who’s following you?
