Tom is the Pastor of Discipleship at Immanuel Baptist Church in Springfield, Virginia. However, his work in ministry first started in the military. He says this is where he recognized his potential for leading men.

As another veteran speaker, Tom is aware of the impact intentional discipleship can have on men. Like many of our workshop presenters, Tom’s journey also began through an intentional mentorship.

“When I was a young husband and father, Pastor Bob Nelson recognized my gifting and invested in me and taught me the fundamentals of the faith in preparation for becoming an Elder.”

His dad was also an incredible influence in his life.

“My Dad was my hero. He was a police officer with NYPD.”

Currently, Tom is reading Chosen by God by R.C. Sproul, stating Sproul had helped his understanding of election and predestination. However his favorite books to recommend to people is The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges and Disciplines of a Godly Man by R. Kent Hughes. When we asked Tom about the man he most identified with in the Bible, he had this to say:

“Joshua, because he loved God, servant-led his people and left a legacy because he finished well.”

It’s also no mistake that the verse speaking to him most at this time is Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (ESV) Pastor Tom Joyce is committed to helping men in their desire to lead a godly life and that’s exactly what The Noble Man is all about too!
