12 Good Friday Resources

For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.

Luke 18:32-33

For us, He wore the crown of thorns.

For us, He was mocked, beaten, spat on, and stripped.

For us, His flesh was torn.

For us, He carried his own cross willingly.

For us, He hung on the tree by the nails driven through his hands and feet.

For us, He cried out and breathed his last breath.

For us, He gave his spirit up in death.

For us, His side was pierced with a sword.

For us, His body lay for days in a dark, cold grave.

For us, He came alive again.

For us, He defeated death and sin forever.

On the day we know as Good Friday, our Lord gave himself to die that we might be redeemed. As we reflect on what that day must have been, here are some ideas and resources to help keep our minds and hearts freshly grateful for what He has done for us.

For Kids:

Do these with your kids or grandkids to help them better understand what Jesus did for them.

  1. In This House, We Will Giggle: Making Virtues, Love, and Laughter a Daily Part of Your Family Life by Courtney DeFeo

Have your kids write down some things they know they’ve done that are wrong and use thumbtacks to “nail” them to the cross on Friday. Then on Easter morning, parents can replace the notes with fresh flowers so the kids can discover that their sins have been replaced with new life!

  1. Our Jesus Basket – Family Time Training

A fun way to use Easter eggs to teach kids about a relationship with Jesus.

For Everyone:

  1. Meditate on the account of Jesus’ death and resurrection in Matthew 27-28, Mark 15-16, Luke 23-24, and John 19-20.
  1. Take a look at the Timeline of Jesus’ Death.
  1. The Morning of Good Friday
  1. The Legend of the Dogwood
  1. The Noble Man Podcast Episode 3
  1. “It’s Friday—But Sunday’s Comin’” by S. M. Lockridge Words and Video
  1. “Man of Sorrows“
  1. “Why?” lyrics by Nicole Nordeman
  1. Check out this video of the annual Parkway Baptist Church tradition where “men of all ages gather in front of the church to worship, pray, and reflect on the work of the Cross on Good Friday Morning.”
  1. The Cross and Manhood

Praise God that Jesus was willing to accomplish our salvation through his death and resurrection! Won’t you spend some time today focusing on what our Savior did for us?
