Mom, you’re the one who is there when the kids come home from a long day. The one who tidies up scraped knees and elbows. The one who hears the exciting replay when they score the goal. The one who sees the tears when they don’t make the team. When our kids walk through the door, moms are at the forefront of sharing in the victories and challenges they face every day.
Now you’re encountering growing challenges that previous generations have not had to face with such force.
I don’t have to tell you that biblical sexuality is under attack, and our kids suffer the consequences. A recent children’s movie, a cartoon, slipped a same-sex kissing scene into the script. The message the world promotes surrounds them.
Mama Bear Apologetics’ newest book, their Guide to Sexuality, has the central purpose of “empowering your kids to understand and live out God’s design” for sexuality. I’m growing to appreciate Mama Bear Apologetics resources more and more as they engage what is at the core of the issues surrounding our kids – their worldview. What is the lens through which our children view the world and everything in it?
Mama Bear’s approach is “ROAR.” It’s the acronym for:
- Recognize the message
- Offer discernment (affirm the good and reject the bad)
- Argue for a healthier approach
- Reinforce through discussion, discipleship, and prayer.
Guide to Sexuality approaches sexuality in this way. It is thorough in teaching God’s intentional and perfect design, something we all need to know and understand, not just our children. Singularly teaching right and wrong stops short of helping our children see the beauty of God’s plan and how He reveals himself to us through his creation – yes, even in our sexuality.
This approach thoroughly equips our children to be aware of when they face a message that contradicts God’s design and helps them handle it biblically and with grace. It is in knowing God and understanding his design that we become compelled to live it out. Knowing him transforms our follow-the-rules mentality to a heart full of desires that match his desires.
As you faithfully raise up your young Noble Warriors and help them fasten the “belt of truth,” we are praying for you. If you are looking for ways to address current issues with a biblical approach, you might find Mama Bear’s podcast, blog, and other resources to be encouraging and equipping for these times.
