“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3
This is the verse that has been speaking to one of our keynote speakers for The Noble Man Roanoke Conference! It’s time to introduce you to Col. Art Athens!
Col. Athens will be leading one of the main sessions during this year’s Roanoke conference and will also be conducting a workshop title, “When You are the Finest; It’s Hard to be Humble.” As a retired Marine officer, Col. Athens understands the importance of biblical male leadership.
“God designed man to have a leadership role in the world, I want to help men fulfill this role in a Godly manner.”
Col. Athen’s own discipleship journey started with one man, Pastor Dick Woodward. He also notes General John Grinalds, USMC (Ret.) as one of the heroes in his life.
“I met Pastor Woodward through my father-in-law and Pastor Woodward’s Mini Bible College would have a significant impact on my walk with the Lord.”
We asked Col. Athens what his favorite book to give to others was and apparently, he gives a way a lot of books!
“My favorite to give to intellectually deep “seekers” is C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity.”
Presently, he’s reading Civility by Stephen Carter.
“[It’s] a great reminder of how civility is where ethics meets every day life.”
As for the man he most identifies with in scripture, Col. Athens had to say Daniel. Like Daniel, he’s “trying to lead well in Babylon.”
