Minute with Mike / October 2020
According to Facebook, you have 1,356 ‘friends’. They know where you vacationed, your political views and that you hate cats.
But, how many ‘authentic friends’ do you have?
These are the guys…
…who know your story. And because they know your story, they know both your strengths and weaknesses. They know the vacation photos don’t tell the back story of family tension.
…who know your family, by name. And something about them… They know what to ask about relationships, journeys and challenges.
…who know your work status… how a recent reorganization impacts your income and bonus, and how great or little joy your job brings.
…who know your spiritual journey… encourages and challenges your faith but also drinks deeply from YOUR experiences.
I’m thankful for men like Don Coleman. (Stay tuned for more on Don in the coming weeks.) We often comment on our ‘authentic friendship’. There are a few other men who know me this way, but there aren’t 1,356 of them.
- Pray for yourself and men in your family, church and community to experience authentic friendship.
- Pray these scriptures…
Then the Lord God said, “it is not good that the man should be alone…” Genesis 2:18
Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17
