Kicking and screaming… that’s how Bobby Scott entered the ministry. He initially refused to accept this calling God placed on his heart, claiming that there must be 100 million people better suited for the Gospel ministry. But, thankfully, Jesus wouldn’t let him say “no.”
“So I humbly accepted His call to ministry and served in college ministry for five years.”
He continued to pursue His calling by attending seminary and serving as an assistant pastor for a year. Then, in 1994, Bobby stepped into his role as a lead pastor.
“I am constantly amazed that He loves me and that motivates me to want to serve Him.”
Pastor Bobby currently serves at Community of Faith Bible Church in Inglewood, CA. As the Pastor of Discipleship, he oversees Sunday morning and mid-week teaching ministries. He loves teaching the Word of God and watching it transform people’s lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. In his free time, Pastor Bobby enjoys working out, including jumping rope, running sprints and lifting weights… “as much as my old body will let me,” he jokes. And he recently read Malcolm Gladwell’s book, Outliers, which is not written by a Christian author but presents a powerful examination of the factors that push people to success. Bobby’s favorite book, however, is Ecclesiastes. He elaborates, “To me it best explains the struggles of life… and because I’m a little weird.” Pastor Bobby has been married to “an angel” for 25 years and they have six amazing kids, who are his pride and joy. They range from ages 14 to 24, all spaced two years apart, and this competitive family loves spending time playing anything from board games to sports. A couple highlights this summer include cheering on his two youngest kids as they ran in the Junior Olympics and witnessing his fourth born give the commencement speech at her high school graduation ceremony.
“Trust Jesus.” He says, “I know it sounds cliché, but that’s the best advice I’ve ever received. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”
Like many, his ministry journey may have begun with some hesitation, but Pastor Bobby’s willingness to serve and his heart for men’s discipleship is being greatly utilized to further the Kingdom.
