Arthur Athens, a retired Marine Corps officer and former Director of the Naval Academy’s Vice Admiral Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership, is well-versed in equipping men to be godly leaders. From a young age, Athens’ fascination for leadership was sparked by watching his own father lead well. He kicked off his vast leadership experience by attending the Naval Academy in 1978, followed by a 30-year career in the United States Marine Corps. He now invests in developing the skills and abilities of others through speaking, writing, consulting, and coaching.
Athens strives to live each day with the motivation of John 17:4 at the forefront of his mind. “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.”
He has been married to his wife, Misti, whom he describes as “godly and radiant,” for 45 years, and they have 10 children, 17 grandchildren, and two more on the way.
The best advice he has ever received is: “It’s never about you… it’s always about others and selfless service.” Athens has modeled this in his service to God, country, community, and family.
Athens was a keynote speaker at a Noble Man Conference in 2019, and we are excited to welcome him back on April 15th as he presents on the topic of leading with humility and excellence.
