If you have ever been challenged by someone regarding the validity of your faith in Jesus or the origin of the Bible, here are two great resources for you to dive into.
First, head over to The Noble Man Podcast, where you can listen to a conversation with Daniel Stevens, PhD, Associate Director of the Scholars Initiative at Museum of the Bible. Dr. Stevens provides a wealth of information for us on the origin of the Bible and its reliability. Be sure to check out the Podcast and Show Notes for the resources he shares.
Another tool I’ve used for years is More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell.
Many would have us believe that we have to choose between faith and logic or religion and science, and that’s just not the case.
Josh McDowell, now a renowned apologist, was once himself a hater of “religion.” His personal testimony is a great example of Jesus’ words in Matthew 7, “Seek and you will find.” Though he was seeking to disprove Christianity, instead he found Christ.
What exactly did he find?
The book is simple, and in layman’s terms he answers some important questions:
- Was Jesus Lord, Liar, or a Lunatic?
- What About Science?
- Are the Bible Records Reliable?
- Who Would Die for a Lie?
- What Good is a Dead Messiah?
Ultimately, we each choose to follow Christ in faith, but as McDowell concludes, it can be “a faith based not on ignorance but on evidence, the facts of history, and God’s Word.”
More Than a Carpenter is a valuable tool that can help us, as Peter tells us, to “Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.” (1 Peter 3:15)
