Mentorship matters for moms too. 

I had the recent experience of speaking with a group of ladies who have decided to be mentor moms at their church. Knowing our focus on mentorship here at Noble Warriors, they asked if I could offer some insight into their training. As a men’s ministry guy, why did I jump at the chance to speak with these ladies? 

Moms, when you mentor a mom with boys, you’re affecting the future generation of men. 

The lady with the vision for this group is Elaine, who, along with her late husband Harry, has been a great friend and supporter of Noble Warriors for many years. Elaine was a full-time at-home mom for many years when her three children were young. When she began working one day per week at Patient First, she says it was by far the easiest day of her week. Wow – what an appreciation I have for the work moms do! 

Since Elaine saw the value of participating in Bible studies and groups when she was a young mom, she set out to invest her time as a seasoned lady into the lives of younger women. And she recruited six “mentor moms” to come alongside her. 

I get excited thinking about that! It’s the same idea we’ve used to launch the Titus 2 MENtoring initiative. 

I asked Elaine about the value of mentorship she is seeing as the ladies have been reading Loving by Leading together. After just a few weeks, she’s been encouraged to see the younger moms’ hope. They recently discussed a note in the book on how the teen years don’t always have to be awful. Her mentor moms have experienced that and can share their wisdom on how putting in hard work and discipling children in their early years can make it smoother. 

She’s prayerfully matched mentor moms with younger moms to create an environment where they can be open and honest with each other about their personal questions and even their weaknesses and struggles. The younger women can be transparent and real, and the seasoned moms will be able to give them personal advice. The mentor moms can draw on their years of experience to answer and encourage the younger women. 

I talk to guys about this all the time, but I know the value in this for ladies too. I pray you will have the opportunity to be mentored or to be a mentor mom, and I pray you take that opportunity. Titus 2 is about men and women. Being a mentor mom is exactly what it calls for, and in so doing, it affects the future of men as well. 

Titus 2:1-8 

“But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.”
