Twenty-One

Our oldest son, Tim, is twenty-one. He’s home for a few weeks before he takes off on his next adventure and assignments. It’s always a delight to have him at home and our family complete. This is a great time of life for him.

Someone recently shared that when he was a young man, his father often said, “Son, your life will never be less complicated than it is right now.” As I look back, I think that’s a true statement.

Twenty-one is a great age. There’s much opportunity and promise ahead. But there are also many landmines. I think it’s pretty important to share wisdom with young men, especially my sons, whenever possible. Apparently King Solomon did as well… 9 of the first 10 chapters of Proverbs reference “my son.” (By the way, reading Proverbs with your sons is a great way to study the Bible together.)

This post that I found on The Art of Manliness website was originally published in the 1920’s. I’m going to share it with Tim. It has solid advice and will likely catalyze some healthy discussions. It’s worth your time to read it and consider sharing it with your son.
