Paul has a message for Fathers…
For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I urge you, then, be imitators of me. 1 Corinthians 4:15-16
Paul thought of Timothy, Titus, and surely other men as his sons in the faith.
As Father’s Day approaches, each of us should ask ourselves, “Who am I fathering?”
Whether the Lord has blessed you with biological children or not, you can still be a father figure to someone. Point someone toward Christ. Listen to someone who needs encouragement on their journey. Pray for and with a young man who is navigating life’s storms.
Every man needs a pat on the back and a bit of cheering. Every man yearns to hear… “Well done.” “I’m proud of you.” “I love you.” I can tell you that these affirmations are valuable.
You don’t have to be a guy’s father to offer some fatherly encouragement.
So, would you accept a challenge for the month of June? Offer some fatherly encouragement to other men along the way. Be careful with fatherly advice; step into that arena carefully. Perhaps if you start with encouragement, a young man will invite you to offer wisdom.
Many guys are quick to share their ideas, but few men are doing so with a father’s heart… leveraging the humility and grace of Christ. Let’s follow Paul’s example!
